(Psst That's not saying I don't want your vote either) I'll be posting a tutorial for the cot tidy next week, I have one more to make, and while I do so I will take the photos for the tute. In the meantime I have to make a book day Disney disco character costumes, for Ellary! <div>And my little sister-in-law is having a birthday on the weekend and its a big one- double digits!! Unsure what i'll make miss K yet, she is fussy with clothing like my kiddies! Also working on a post about parenting- look out for it soon- hopefully a funny take on the craziness! Oh, and a milestone on the blog, almost finally at 1000 page views total, which isn't huge for a big blog but its something big for me :) still blogger doesn't show that I have any followers :( </div></div><div>Maybe time for a celebratory giveaway soon? I own crochet books and use them for ideas or inspiration etc, but I can never follow a pattern without deviating. And I can't stay with a project for long, my hands get sore and my mind gets bored and counting with distractions doesn't work great! So this isn't a traditional crochet pattern which is why I think it works for beginners! <div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOLCP_q1yXovp8kapX0rPA_8ELEPaM6p0ruxJUCHIIvmixLjC7o-OtB6PI1ABMiLBt1ilb9TkkOEt889IyBONT2LsiRAQ_Y7PUa9mxLfIOni96JcgfxKrEh0ri3PiHt9n4ZIJtG7Ssk0Y/s640/blogger-image-158235530.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOLCP_q1yXovp8kapX0rPA_8ELEPaM6p0ruxJUCHIIvmixLjC7o-OtB6PI1ABMiLBt1ilb9TkkOEt889IyBONT2LsiRAQ_Y7PUa9mxLfIOni96JcgfxKrEh0ri3PiHt9n4ZIJtG7Ssk0Y/s640/blogger-image-158235530.jpg"></a></div>I used what i think is 4ply, and used two stands of wool as one, i just pulled the middle end out and the outer end of wool and used them as if it were one piece. it gave the cowl a bit more chunky-ness which i like! and i used a 3.5ml hook because i couldn't find anything bigger. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrSXx-BR4Vm39NiiAjXc_8LNiYDmGCjX0gzbV6LETYksrq4BHrOQNOhrz_wNFae09rHtLU9DZIyPoluD_svRUVfH6zLwZBu1k3yj-0yDiYKiz0F17Zab63f5zd1_wKcwV-G9VuyWABAwM/s640/blogger-image--905692257.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrSXx-BR4Vm39NiiAjXc_8LNiYDmGCjX0gzbV6LETYksrq4BHrOQNOhrz_wNFae09rHtLU9DZIyPoluD_svRUVfH6zLwZBu1k3yj-0yDiYKiz0F17Zab63f5zd1_wKcwV-G9VuyWABAwM/s640/blogger-image--905692257.jpg"></a></div>For juju, who has a head circumference of 52cm I started with 51 chains, this is the top of your cowl, if you have your child handy you can try it on them once you slip join your chain to make sure it's large enough to fit over their head but only stretched, not too loose. (Or it will end up like Roos cowl-see pics below- i didn't have him handy to measure so i used the same sizes as Jujus which didn't work) My second round is single stitches into each chain link without increases. Rows 3-9 are treble stitches, with increases (an extra stitch) every 5th stitch, or whatever works for you! My 10th row (bottom) is single stitch, I ended up with 65 stitches. (Told you I don't count well with distractions- I had my kiddies watching a movie-back to the future 3- and they have to ask questions about what's happening the entire time) <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvQyOHiZEYBUIS43-RxWuIwPV98HyIhqrRHZatncr3F2AyqomfTcpTI3u_tzAGI2UieAM9M9SFhfTsWQTKhRk-Iad3kfDbCHGlHV4Eh30PkavYed1YuvX2UanLZCSw0rnTntOCwpYyyAQ/s640/blogger-image--1564503178.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvQyOHiZEYBUIS43-RxWuIwPV98HyIhqrRHZatncr3F2AyqomfTcpTI3u_tzAGI2UieAM9M9SFhfTsWQTKhRk-Iad3kfDbCHGlHV4Eh30PkavYed1YuvX2UanLZCSw0rnTntOCwpYyyAQ/s640/blogger-image--1564503178.jpg"></a></div></div><div>What you will end up with is 10 rows, the top being smaller- small enough to not be too lose around their neck but not too tight that it can't fit over their heads! And it flares out slightly to sit out onto shoulders. It really is a forgiving piece, miss a stitch or add a stitch and it won't change too much of the overall piece. As long as you get the initial chain size right and you arent crocheting too tight you are good to go! Of course you can make this larger for older ones, Tehy helped me crochet her one also... She got sick of the movie half way through and then got sick of crocheting half way through also, she got to the fifth row and gave up, so she has called it a head band rather then a cowl which she is happy with! The only thing you will need to change is the initial chain stitch- which will be longer to fit larger heads and you will have more rows to cover their longer neck and wider shoulders. You could use two different balls of wool to add some interest, or you could use a larger ply size or just use a single stand of the smaller ply if you wanted a thinner cowl if you want it for say- spring/summer rather then autumn/winter here! Good luck, I hope you make some sense of it, if you need any extra info, have questions or want to show your finished work leave me a comment and let me know how you go! :) <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV9h_8lPG3aLzvCfquxW8xw_FJkbeAuIUpKh-AFqy1MYQ51b6_zwG1dGfb0bnQV9UOKN_6kgBfjX1dRcxKW_PnR3rJK19Xx5gYrLjB4gChgy7BI_tVwDwPcoOg9sQlmWsW0IE4NGpwHzw/s640/blogger-image-1457272490.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV9h_8lPG3aLzvCfquxW8xw_FJkbeAuIUpKh-AFqy1MYQ51b6_zwG1dGfb0bnQV9UOKN_6kgBfjX1dRcxKW_PnR3rJK19Xx5gYrLjB4gChgy7BI_tVwDwPcoOg9sQlmWsW0IE4NGpwHzw/s640/blogger-image-1457272490.jpg"></a>Have to add a pic of the dread head rasta style beanie I made hubby also!</div></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12840610232281850315noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-917626168008802393.post-73276267337494159702013-05-31T11:35:00.001+10:002013-05-31T12:29:45.912+10:00It's been a while!!It's been a while since I last blogged, after I completed kcw and my sewing machine decided it needed a service that was it! It's been in the shop since and I finally get to pick it up this afternoon! YAY! I misjudged how much I would miss sewing these last couple weeks. I strived to put my energy into something else like cleaning or cooking, the cleaning? ha not that it helped at all, the house<div>Looks the same as it usually does! And cooking? It actually went well! The boys have been on a gluten and lactose free diet for the last 6 months, and I'm finally actually cooking most of it from scratch! <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIuTHo43ZG0Hbw0-zeC9xAsYj7hYaybnk41caUrqqHndM8VLNr3u-x7kSOWqI1HP8wzRuRGiqzmCaIIcYQfT4Tee9uNqSoouw8sKCLMy0c6j8aM0rWV0sLdho06K981vb5CHocrAfNOIg/s640/blogger-image--701983528.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIuTHo43ZG0Hbw0-zeC9xAsYj7hYaybnk41caUrqqHndM8VLNr3u-x7kSOWqI1HP8wzRuRGiqzmCaIIcYQfT4Tee9uNqSoouw8sKCLMy0c6j8aM0rWV0sLdho06K981vb5CHocrAfNOIg/s640/blogger-image--701983528.jpg"></a></div><br></div><br></div>I've successfully made rainbow bread, sultana bread, (and they taste like normal bread- oh but more delicious!) chocolate cakes, sausage rolls and pies! In the past I have done a little here and there and since the boys were born I haven't cooked many family meals! Afternoons are routines, we play outside, we come inside for dinner bats an bed, there isn't time of day to cook in that with 4 kiddies! So, mum (and sometimes my hubby) do most of it! I'm so greatful for my mum who lives downstairs! She works at Ellarys school and does the school morning routines and comes home with the kiddies and then makes us all dinner (except the boys dinner which I do because of the special dietary needs) speaking of special diets, we had blood tests a few weeks ago, did I mention that? I'm not sure, oh well. The tests came back and we went to see the doctor, he was not for coming with the test results and told me there was no magic pill to 'fix' my kids! Gah! He rattled off some numbers saying allergies will show higher than a 1000 counters in an igA! I did some research and it wasn't the right numbers for the boys age group which made me really question it further, the doctor (who isn't our usual gp) shut down the test result pages just as quick as he opened them but I got to see Roos count was at an 8. I'm not a doctor but from my research his count was below normal range and if at their age they had got a count of 1000 it would basically mean they were allergic to absolutely everything edible and probably everything not! Long story short we need a new doctor! Yesterday Juju had an episode of horrible reactions, the chemist and nurse confirmed it was a reaction that caused his stomachs acids not to break down and he ended up (TMI) pooing acids and had an acid burn rash which is apparently common with gluten and lactose allergies! His face the came up in hives <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4MhyphenhyphenSQYpZtUrJzIzQ67Nyoc7O5M1L03wyK6FVDlM1l8swmaXWC6DSgZ3NBzzIlNFYXxUrjFk9EzEir8TZedx3jLHybtMqCnyqbVug_XWQmgTqAmgjRgajTyfbAHmPCOuVGII9rBtrfXk/s640/blogger-image--1292076763.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4MhyphenhyphenSQYpZtUrJzIzQ67Nyoc7O5M1L03wyK6FVDlM1l8swmaXWC6DSgZ3NBzzIlNFYXxUrjFk9EzEir8TZedx3jLHybtMqCnyqbVug_XWQmgTqAmgjRgajTyfbAHmPCOuVGII9rBtrfXk/s640/blogger-image--1292076763.jpg"></a></div>and he got the shock shakes and passed out! It wasn't very nice :/ so cooking is a must in our house now, although the boys would live on rice noodles, crackers, bananas, grapes and gf spaghetti from a can if I let them! They do need variety and to attempt new things as their texture preference allows!</div><div>Back to sewing- I have many things cut and ready to go- you didn't think I could leave my sewing room completely alone did you!? Gosh no! I have a hand stamped t shirt, a cot tidy and a party dress all cut ready to go, and a few fix it jobs that are piling up- who likes them anyway! ha. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj64L6qBZlPicKvXNEvwHYEzj2uYfsE2L6FMAwNDhwkQvseyHs8_vTMCzVVjyVjHPyR-H-Xl8iftd2RU2UB6ELa3usedCc9VN6lB5cZsHpi58njCsFFjvieo2Z-awaLZ1D3n92GGJiJphs/s640/blogger-image-1135849575.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj64L6qBZlPicKvXNEvwHYEzj2uYfsE2L6FMAwNDhwkQvseyHs8_vTMCzVVjyVjHPyR-H-Xl8iftd2RU2UB6ELa3usedCc9VN6lB5cZsHpi58njCsFFjvieo2Z-awaLZ1D3n92GGJiJphs/s640/blogger-image-1135849575.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">(my new fabric challenge bundle!)</div>So, sorry I have been absent and sorry for my rant on allergies and doctors lol, I will be back with some more sewing projects soon, and a couple of tutorials and patterns too :) next post will be up tomorrow with a crochet project- tutorial/pattern for a toddlers cowl scarf! I didn't get as much done as I hoped I would but that's ok too! I really should have dropped my machine off for that service when I said it was going in but I was stubborn and decided it could wait till the end of the week to allow me to do this. It held up ok, but I spent more time unpicking to fix missed stitches then I would have liked. And now the ammount of missed stitches is more then the hit stitches so its off to the shop now with hubby on his way to work! So the last couple of projects were exclusive or almost exclusive use of the serger! And Saturday, I got sick of clothes and needed a quick fix so I made a fleecy blanket. Not really the rules of KCW but its such a quick project and I felt accomplished! The Flickr pool for Elsie marley is topped with cute and radical clothes! So inspiring, and a few of them that are self drafted patterns or upcycled - I desperately wish I could buy, or have a tutorial or pattern for! So my photos below; spots and whimsy- sailor shorts pattern by peekaboo pattern shop, extended to pants length. I love the way these go together and I finally have an understanding of pockets and the sailor opening! Yay. I made two more pairs of those, one in elephant printed corduroy which is lovely and soft yet hardy, and another in aboriginal print polycotton? I'm not fussed on the poly cotton in the way it sits all boxy but on they look extremely comfy. I upcycled a pair of men's suit slacks into two pairs of pants, which don't fit anyone yet-oops. And made Tetris stencils and fabric painted some geeky jeans for the boys, I haven't got to the other pair yet (i am thinking pacman) I made some leggings for Ellary with a ribbed cotton waist and owl fabric paint stamps. And finally the blankie, it's a great size for the boys cots as it actually tucks in at the sides where as the bought cot quilts and blankets rarely or never stay tucked at the sides. I think I'll call KCW for me a half fail and I'll continue to do more clothes for my kiddies when my machine gets back later this week. Until I'm satisfied that they have enough to last them the season ahead! :) <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCW_ZRhoPJswWls-J1T6l9zz15fNUS3sobsqufcE-V4iYtFMYHyrR8isVy4hCgUHV5wmkfAYnEoTJKNXfEbNnODh9Uyn8aqV-YXka43qcP8BLiz-KK9b7B1JU_PShMeFkX-qU6mCItRWs/s640/blogger-image-1553075369.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; We followed and observed her all day as she warmed her wings and flew a bit and then stopped to unfold a bit more and warm them more, she drank some nectar from a grape Tehy gave her and then we left her to it in the garden! We took lots of piccys and Tehy ( our insect loving child) was amused to no end all day! Introducing "Lepi-dot-tooora" as Tehy calls her.</div>
Last week while doing our normal afternoon routine of outside play, i went to put Juju in the swing and i did something to my back and it hasnt been great since, i have a history of back issues so i am used to the constant dull pains but this was different, it has stopped me from bending over, i cannot pick up the kids, the toys off the floor or put a load of washing on! i can squat to do things if i absolutely need to but yesterday my doctor put strict instructions upon me; LIVE LIKE A QUEEN!!- For a week and then come back to reassess after swelling goes down. Its not something that comes easy, and i struggle to sit still and watch others do my things. So anyway, all my planned projects have been put on hold and instead i'm sitting, and planning more ha. Hubby has gone back to working full time since the holidays finished last week and my cleaner has gone on a cruise so my home is resembling an episode of hoarders in certain areas, especially my craft room/upcakes HQ. because im unable to pick everything up thats fallen on the floor and under the desk, or put anything away that i had out during the early part of last week. shambles i tells ya. Anyway, i'm going to share with you a few pics i managed to take before church last week, i was planning for it to be a photo shoot to beable to link up with project run and plays formal week, but things dont always go to plan, i wasnt able to complete any other of my partially done pieces of the outfit and if this shoot was anything to go by... not a great one lol.<br />

Ju Jus suit jacket, one of the pieces I did get finished. I love it. An upcycle project, it was a medium mens suit from a second hand store. I still have enough to make another for Roo and pants for each, (which was the plan and other details were planned and partially done also just wait i guess) i'll just have to scale down the <a href="http://www.blankslatepatterns.com/2012/08/the-basic-blazer.html" target="_blank">Basic Blazer pattern by Blank Slate Patterns</a>, Roo is a size smaller and even on Ju this 18 months size was a tad wide and long (and yes i think i need to add an extra button on his, up top, too) but winter isnt here yet so it may be a perfect fit for then.<br />

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Most of the photos were like this, Roo had lost his patience and just wanted to go "car" and at-least one was pulling a face purposely or candidly! Ellas dress; an upcycle from my closet, i only took it in 2 inches on either side of the back shirring and it sat well on her. i hadn't worn since the occasion for which i bought it, (a friends wedding- i was hiding my pregnant belly, the twins had "popped" and were evident in all my other clothes and we werent telling yet) i bought it white and spent hours boiling the polyester dress, it is dipdyed effect and i love the 'pick ups'! i love it on her, much better then it looked on me i think.</div>

So half way through autumn it becomes winter? Who knew! We have had the silliest seasons and I'm not loving the cold change with added rain. We have had a hectic few weeks, the painter just finished the front veranda last week and is now onto the back deck. We have had trestles two stories high in the yard for over 3 weeks and the yard has been scattered with ladders and paint tins along with the kids toys which doesn't make it very safe for the kids to play when we get the rare moments of sunny warm weather! Being Cooped up inside has done a terrible thing for routine and the boys think its grand to wake at odd hours and stay awake for a few hours crying! My machine is off to get a service this week, it's skipping stitches and I've lost all zigzag stitch settings! So all my projects are sitting idle, cut and ready or are half done just on the serger and waiting for hems or top stitching. And while I wasn't fussed on pulling out all the winter clothes and projects just yet, the weather is dictating that its certainly a good idea sooner than later. I'll share my 'cooler weather' project list with you all soon! <br />
And here's a pic of my hand sewing today, I couldn't help it- just had to get in there and do something so I have made the boys a tie each from op shop/ thrift shop ties, more on those soon also! <br />

What a wonderful day, we were blessed with a big sleep in this morning, which was lovely after being up late sewing- I produced 8 bunny stuffies and 2 skirts (loved that they were ridiculously easy- knit yoga fold down waist skirts) and the deep coral color- LOVE! I did have boysies Easter outfits in the works but only got one suit jacket done :/ I'll save it aside until I get a chance to make the second one. finally crashied at 11:30 with a migraine and a little restless boy who woke and decided he wanted snuggles. We didn't make to church this morning, the service was too early for us but we talked about the reason we have Easter at bedtime last night with the girls, Ellary did a great job telling Tehy what she understood. <br />
We kept chocolate to a minimum today, we had an egg hunt with one cousin, some of hubby's family came bearing chocolate gifts also. I had my family here as always also. The girls got their nails done by their aunties. <br />
Roo has an Intolerance to lactose so he had a couple of candys instead, he did get his hands on a melted egg and ended up with some in his mouth- resulted in no day sleep for the boys today. (Roo and Juju are also the reason we didn't have dyed eggs this year- see last photo- Roo was very upset by it too apparently) <br />
This afternoon Tehy and daddy did some gardening, pulled out all the radish, only a few were ready but hubby wanted to cull them off to make room for garlic and tomatoes! The boysies enjoyed a swing while I lazed in the hammock and Ellary attempted to rollerblade. <br />
<br />
HAPPY EASTER ALL! <br />
Did you enjoy your easter weekend? <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL5rtU8bZ4QKyihKyzH7Vn1W4NZ65O5rhSYx3tiFWBbTD65eGgHUHWx_3-TAzSgEek9PjXfHeBy5bc7sx_I6K1SJuquG3j0llPctuZmpqFGRPJgcR5CcCnK1Yr4Tx5q2VJkUh_zuG4kFg/s640/blogger-image--1338818284.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiL5rtU8bZ4QKyihKyzH7Vn1W4NZ65O5rhSYx3tiFWBbTD65eGgHUHWx_3-TAzSgEek9PjXfHeBy5bc7sx_I6K1SJuquG3j0llPctuZmpqFGRPJgcR5CcCnK1Yr4Tx5q2VJkUh_zuG4kFg/s640/blogger-image--1338818284.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDaV9Bc7xDXUcrt7YEvvOUblMt6mou-YROXfKzRV4zbvRswDnj6HMCO_N25SYMHiTMdEBfQkPxfwdY9a09c43aVmWXSp3GhDVLTB_POQ_nUy_fDvvXqf4RWQKVpv5BmxH0VSscEesAC_Y/s640/blogger-image-456939523.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDaV9Bc7xDXUcrt7YEvvOUblMt6mou-YROXfKzRV4zbvRswDnj6HMCO_N25SYMHiTMdEBfQkPxfwdY9a09c43aVmWXSp3GhDVLTB_POQ_nUy_fDvvXqf4RWQKVpv5BmxH0VSscEesAC_Y/s640/blogger-image-456939523.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7rFxquFBdd3diaf5yHO8dsW6xOjNh6Cm1x0Ve3PBIpUn4uYQd4V8AL_H0AJjYz_EAniSK4aa_wpaw5GvrrZg1zExe5ihSGVsnlsuj9wkitqYDHR9VARfhZqeMK939SMezdImxUnEe5VI/s640/blogger-image-832266168.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7rFxquFBdd3diaf5yHO8dsW6xOjNh6Cm1x0Ve3PBIpUn4uYQd4V8AL_H0AJjYz_EAniSK4aa_wpaw5GvrrZg1zExe5ihSGVsnlsuj9wkitqYDHR9VARfhZqeMK939SMezdImxUnEe5VI/s640/blogger-image-832266168.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1M1qUJBu1KEdwPs1df3IBtB3EJ1_nUFr22RN8zxYUpi0pnXZl0tgXsvtSu9xA8G5eWJSE-nOjSek-nYPGH_aN-LwnqjBApsO2PYLxcWr_EPwWaDvFv_APWo_Uvb8c1P6tKNIX5EJHqCE/s640/blogger-image--560406775.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1M1qUJBu1KEdwPs1df3IBtB3EJ1_nUFr22RN8zxYUpi0pnXZl0tgXsvtSu9xA8G5eWJSE-nOjSek-nYPGH_aN-LwnqjBApsO2PYLxcWr_EPwWaDvFv_APWo_Uvb8c1P6tKNIX5EJHqCE/s640/blogger-image--560406775.jpg" /></a></div> <br/><br/><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXq-KRrWq8RpgmAYvDPtEHaMEqL9I6ZvxxdXGfeKQt5QLKLcspqkpg43n25ocrbVsB5RTplW8JY6VpeGfpIFITmBlubJtvcqikFVOM1iwm1KtCHQGBF31TUM5bxCJ9nMGG4ghklbVoR2w/s640/blogger-image-1164262279.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXq-KRrWq8RpgmAYvDPtEHaMEqL9I6ZvxxdXGfeKQt5QLKLcspqkpg43n25ocrbVsB5RTplW8JY6VpeGfpIFITmBlubJtvcqikFVOM1iwm1KtCHQGBF31TUM5bxCJ9nMGG4ghklbVoR2w/s640/blogger-image-1164262279.jpg" /></a></div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12840610232281850315noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-917626168008802393.post-25056828876474348302013-03-19T20:36:00.001+10:002013-03-19T20:38:48.638+10:00NEW CAR!!On Saturday we went car shopping, yesterday we applied to the bank, we hadn't even seen the particular car yet! Today we became the proud new owners of a Ford Territory Ghia! I seen it at lunch time when hubby test drove it- after we bought it!<i> Go on tell me the rules of buying a car! :) </i>We pick it up tomorrow after signing final papers for insurance! quick process! We have never bought a car from a car yard before, our previous cars were bought from close friends or family (with exception to the one we were gifted as a wedding present from my mum) So this is just wonderful!! a new chapter in our lives -the luxury our-family-sized car! Which has in turn made us able to gift our station wagon to my sister and her boyfriend who haven't had a car for a few months (due to no jobs-due to no transport -viscous circle) Don't you love being able to bless people through God blessing you! It's a wonderful feeling! Such is faith! So, our new car has black leather seats, we have 4 kiddies, 3 of which are in baby seats. so we need a cover to protect the seats, I am yet to find a tutorial for anything similar to what I have in mind but I will definitely share either my own if I cant find one, or if I do find one to use I will share the link. And if all else fails we will go buy one, if we can find one. haha, hunting mode engaged!<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img height="106" src="http://www.makeit-loveit.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/fabricboxes-670x357.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="200" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2011/09/fabric-storage-boxes-per-your-request.html" target="_blank">fabric boxes by make it & love it</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
And to help keep our new car new we need to add some removable storage ( even though there are so many compartments for random things) so these will be on my list to make this weekend! we be great for groceries or sandy beach stuff. I think I will make a few, one to hold a plastic bag for rubbish, one for emergency items (like first aid, spare nappies and wipes, a change of clothes and snacks and drinks- that will not be consumed in the car) <i>we say this now, but I know the rules don't carry for long! I personally give it a month!</i> and another to gather up and carry things out of the car- groceries and the kids toys that randomly end up everywhere! Can you tell I'm excited?! ha ha.<br />
<br />
It may sound silly to some of you who are well off or who have been on your feet financially for a while, but with our ups and downs with life our 10 years together have not been financially secure for long periods of time, be it the couple years hubby spent in bible college or us having more babies, which was painful on the pocket for travel and medical needs. Compared with the season of youth work that seen our accounts the fullest they ever had been but which left us all drowning emotionally, but now, we are in a wonderful blessed place, hubby has a great job with a promotion on the near horizon and a wonderful boss. I am Thankful that God has blessed us with this season in our lives, its comfortable,calm and quiet and it feels most relaxed and natural place to be in life right now. <i>I'm not saying life is perfect, just that I am at peace within the parts that are hectic, and life on a whole is feeling great! </i><br />
<i><br /></i>
I also have my friends son celebrating his 2nd birthday this weekend, he needs one of these storage boxes for his matchbox cars- something with a bit of childish character and maybe some wheels?! I'll share what I come up with when its done!<br />
<br />
Hope you are all having a wonderful week! What are you making this week?<br />
<i><br /></i>

So anyway, it was decided that my boysies needed some new pants, long ones to last them through the colder months approaching. And right now Mr Roo is between sizes, and Juju is almost in another size up (Mr chubby!) so buying clothes when they won't last the season ahead isn't the best idea, so I am going to custom size a few pairs each. And I started with these, the front pocket was a first for me, it's lined with surprise fabric:<br />
(blue argyle) and the piping (which is handmade real piping) cute reindeer on teal fabric which I love!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2fN2RpaWrSrMH-cvb82YE21m_WlSWAlONJ4_nvxISi0Gjwf1MXkeA1GwkJhUa1XHTsrHKxcoT8CdZrH0WX6z_fS7FKQ_uv-UJ1OuBO3asJ9zJHHyyAXTHenwxxADKtHUdVCdw8p51kwI/s640/blogger-image--262933927.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2fN2RpaWrSrMH-cvb82YE21m_WlSWAlONJ4_nvxISi0Gjwf1MXkeA1GwkJhUa1XHTsrHKxcoT8CdZrH0WX6z_fS7FKQ_uv-UJ1OuBO3asJ9zJHHyyAXTHenwxxADKtHUdVCdw8p51kwI/s320/blogger-image--262933927.jpg" width="238" /></a></div><br />
I have misplaced(yeah I know! how? if you seen my craft room you would understand!) my zipper foot so I wasn't able to the best job with the piping but I still love it! The back pocket is a first for stitch detail which I never bother doing, because- I'm a 'quick,easy,done. Sewist' but I think I'm converting, these details were a learning curve and yes, it took a bit longer and I only got to make one pair of pants last night in the time I usually would have banged out two plain (not detail) pairs. BUT I love them! My hubby isn't fussed on the mustache trend but I even got compliments on these pants, I feel so much more accomplished, like I've done my first 'real' pair of pants ha ha. Dramatic much! Ok anyway, the second pair I started today during nap time (until I ran out of thread and had to run to the shop) and am going to finish tonight now that all the bubbas are in slumber land! Anyway, since I forgot to even look for a zipper foot at the store (gah!) I decided I should try something a little different. So.... My faux piping was born, I am guessing its probably been done before but if you, like me haven't seen it then ill just say it doesn't exist and show you my how to! It's a great way to Finnish your clothes when you find yourself without cotton rope or a zipper foot, or both! <br />
Firstly I cut a strip of contrast fabric, it's approx. 3/4" wide and the length is dependent on what your putting it on, I cut mine slightly larger than the top of the pocket:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiTgJCuxm-jVzv7CtUSb-pernRZZtS_07-7Ieekh6k0ZDfwAzXranL5xxa7jIDViKiwBljdyjMtBDG9RRaKlP5tivLdbnx840PIem4lX0qj1xeevv7uNcPRbGscUTFlTjRYJmXdn36Wg4/s640/blogger-image--1992039265.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="149" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiTgJCuxm-jVzv7CtUSb-pernRZZtS_07-7Ieekh6k0ZDfwAzXranL5xxa7jIDViKiwBljdyjMtBDG9RRaKlP5tivLdbnx840PIem4lX0qj1xeevv7uNcPRbGscUTFlTjRYJmXdn36Wg4/s200/blogger-image--1992039265.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />
And then level both at the top, right sides together and sew a 1/4" seam:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf4S4KXVs2DpdU8q4VewP6FW51ztSQ_oLKXVvuuelM5-39Mf6xm-itr_vOplEEUC1UonhT_Xukpfj7lqQmkIOmVSfFpgW4NVdT5UPHyYee9emcyyx29XNqGHY6EydtJFDQxVapdwKELNc/s640/blogger-image--1909957008.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="149" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf4S4KXVs2DpdU8q4VewP6FW51ztSQ_oLKXVvuuelM5-39Mf6xm-itr_vOplEEUC1UonhT_Xukpfj7lqQmkIOmVSfFpgW4NVdT5UPHyYee9emcyyx29XNqGHY6EydtJFDQxVapdwKELNc/s200/blogger-image--1909957008.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>(This part may be a little hard to explain) I took the contrast fabric and flipped it back up: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaJ-l-9GvpKxAvZul550alzAv7VIuZbDIDWDw1zc_80XCjdJilf9an8N270mhFsCcW-Mv5FmV1jC_ryaNBQNPpIYSgriCdwV4vjCSELHi4JgSvdEPqxEwtRNMVl0lm5azwpctHzXJ1Vt4/s640/blogger-image--1103326127.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="149" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaJ-l-9GvpKxAvZul550alzAv7VIuZbDIDWDw1zc_80XCjdJilf9an8N270mhFsCcW-Mv5FmV1jC_ryaNBQNPpIYSgriCdwV4vjCSELHi4JgSvdEPqxEwtRNMVl0lm5azwpctHzXJ1Vt4/s200/blogger-image--1103326127.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>And then over to the back of the pocket: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH0S556-zRdV3jklNnI1kFR4h7dtyoWFxZ2lfzVC0wrSs2ir0LIWFTdDQJke6epx-M8ueCO4zG8ohRyXj6zfPvPLG5hoC9npdsq4u5M96rscay_MoVZHHoRto387VdFngsmO1hq4CBuvY/s640/blogger-image--1276660016.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="149" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH0S556-zRdV3jklNnI1kFR4h7dtyoWFxZ2lfzVC0wrSs2ir0LIWFTdDQJke6epx-M8ueCO4zG8ohRyXj6zfPvPLG5hoC9npdsq4u5M96rscay_MoVZHHoRto387VdFngsmO1hq4CBuvY/s200/blogger-image--1276660016.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />
You should have a narrow strip along the top, move it up or down to resize your strip of fabric to make the 'piping' the size you want, and then: <br />
Top stitch it! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWHBye5UfJQ3YOXM-pVBI9B5cW4OdzUnGKJ3i0LiCxESk0Ef2a1RsjqKvMyueaWvrh6mLjfSmEXqFvjicUSNF_hlWIqtWcA5hiw128XPvtJ_9dBAKcz1xaKv-meF-SGFDW49Scdih5e5A/s640/blogger-image-2110740493.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="149" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWHBye5UfJQ3YOXM-pVBI9B5cW4OdzUnGKJ3i0LiCxESk0Ef2a1RsjqKvMyueaWvrh6mLjfSmEXqFvjicUSNF_hlWIqtWcA5hiw128XPvtJ_9dBAKcz1xaKv-meF-SGFDW49Scdih5e5A/s200/blogger-image-2110740493.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>Cute huh?! And no need for a zipper foot or cotton rope yay! And then finish the pocket, (or garment) however you like!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmJF94H_WOHQKRuPyKpeQ9uByCFSJlMEuOJHMZjoMSJzL3sQklmhv2Dwhw7maxtReUDewlOaiHzJyHMwOQX8vQJJby06yx-MOWPPiz8ugoFEsbN5TW4JtB3uQ5LIsyLjDqLe1yFNUPSqo/s640/blogger-image--178226188.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="149" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmJF94H_WOHQKRuPyKpeQ9uByCFSJlMEuOJHMZjoMSJzL3sQklmhv2Dwhw7maxtReUDewlOaiHzJyHMwOQX8vQJJby06yx-MOWPPiz8ugoFEsbN5TW4JtB3uQ5LIsyLjDqLe1yFNUPSqo/s200/blogger-image--178226188.jpg" width="200" /></a></div> This second pair of pants, has no stitch detail on the bum pockets because I didn't want to over do it, it has two instead of one like the first pair, the second pair also has argyle lining in the front pocket, but its 'sock monkey' both have the same front pocket lining, Jujus pair have a flat front but Roo has a full elastic waist because his waist is still so wittle. Jujus has a faux fly stitched on the front also. We rushed out the door this morning, dad loaded the car and i didn't want to haul them out again just for photos so i thought id get some when we got home, unfortunately they fell asleep on the way home, so you will have to wait for those pics!<br />

Edit: Please see latest post for the pics of the boysies sporting their new clothes! :) Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12840610232281850315noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-917626168008802393.post-82077791137381553472013-03-08T21:22:00.002+10:002013-03-08T21:22:45.981+10:00what have I been doing?<br />
<br />
I'll tell ya! :) firstly it was my birthday last weekend, I got my over locker from hubby and the kids (Christmas and birthday present) the week before, its my new baby-lock, and I love it, even though I have had to re thread it twice manually in the learning process and I have now run out of thread ha. now that I have an over load of machine thread I need to stock up on over locker threads, and lucky me got gift cards to our local craft store so that's were I will be going to get some! I had a wonderful birthday, my husband was able to take the weekend off which was bliss! my mum threw a birthday BBQ and invited a couple of my closest friends and we had a couple (yes 2 ha ha) of drinks to celebrate. Oh, if you must know, I'm 26. (what?!) Because I hate posting without a pic or two (because it kind of annoys me being so stark) I thought I should share what I have been working on since my last post, which was SO long ago!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

So, entered the march sewing challenge over at <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Little-Starfish-Fabrics/192634597481721" target="_blank">Little Starfish Fabrics on facebook</a>, We were given two fabrics and a clasp that all needed to be used, if you head over and check it out you will see the elephant fabric, which I used for the lining. I have decided I do like challenges, and also learnt that I should write down the date that the challenge finishes. I think I did fairly well with my last minute sew spree, my boys had a nap for just over 2 hours and I made major things happen. if you didn't know it yet, that's how long it takes to sew up an <a href="http://seekatesew.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/envelope-clutch-pattern.html" target="_blank">envelope clutch by see kate sew</a> and also a <a href="http://prudentbaby.com/2012/04/hot-mess/accessories-hot-mess/zipper-bow-clutch/" target="_blank">bow clutch by prudent baby</a> (bonus- both are free patterns-personal use) they are adorable, I made the bow zipper clutch for my sister for Christmas and now have one for me! in gorgeous damask (my love) !!<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj88EcMhxakAQ3fbmavtiYfpIi2-tI_u-MO6glplHdS8s4ZlfXHojAi0CynA79MafH1VtxcUPQ22WkYKg4NQHKpDUQEc51Mp9iiBbZwG-H1fwDJjJWVr6YHraGybTOpp4Tw65Nqc8Rbqv4/s1600/IMG_9400.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj88EcMhxakAQ3fbmavtiYfpIi2-tI_u-MO6glplHdS8s4ZlfXHojAi0CynA79MafH1VtxcUPQ22WkYKg4NQHKpDUQEc51Mp9iiBbZwG-H1fwDJjJWVr6YHraGybTOpp4Tw65Nqc8Rbqv4/s320/IMG_9400.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Tehy and I attacked the kids little coffee table, I didn't bother measuring out the tape, little miss wasn't fussed on allowing that. so we just stuck tape in an uneven chevron, I wanted yellow and white and maybe grey but Tehy demanded pink, so my idea went out the window and I will show the result of Tehys' artistic expression when I finally have enough sunshine to touch up the lines and give it a gloss enamel protection layer.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I also made all the kids pjs, did I tell you already? ha my mind is gone. I bought the fabric this week to make the girls some dress' I'm still deciding which to make for who so maybe I'll ask them, they are <strike>often</strike> over opinionated about things like that :) I'll procrastinate doing the bubbas quilts just a little longer with those as an excuse. </div>
<div>
IF i get anything done this week it will miraculous, i have my sister visiting for the week, i have Ellarys orthodontist appointment (to discuss removing 4 adult molars) and the boys paediatric appointment all in one day, while hubby is at work (can you say *breathe* meltdown?!) and we are waiting to see if we will own a new car next week also. busy crazy week. hopefully the rain will stay away, even for 24 hours straight would be utterly blissful. </div>
<div>
How is the weather at your place? What have you been doing lately?</div>
<div>
I HOPE YOU ALL HAVE AN AWESOME WEEK!!! :) </div>

These two dresses I made for my girls were inspiration dancing around in my head for quite a while, I knew I wanted ruffles, like a bustle, a pillow case/apron style tie up, enough like a pinafore to justify so my time going into a piece so the girls could layer the dress over a long sleeved knit tee and or leggings when the weather got cooler but not too pinafore-‘ish’ that it couldn't be worn alone as a summer dress. I love how they turned out, both are a little different as I learnt things from the first and transferred them to the second but both have the same principals in making them. The main fabric body pieces are a stretch thin but heavy denim, I'm not sure if there is any other details I can give on that as it was a huge remanent piece given to me. unfortunately it retains creases a bit too well and ironing is undone pretty quickly. sigh.The ruffles and ties are a polycotton called ‘spots’ from lincraft. </div>

The blue and green one has an inner lining of thin cotton, the yellow has the ruffles on another piece of the same denim. Basically if you wanted to make something similar you could use <a href="http://creatingbycami.blogspot.com.au/2011/03/business-in-front-party-in-back.html" target="_blank">this awesome tutorial</a> as a 'how to' for the ruffled bustle style back, (she cleverly calls it the business at the front party in the back mullet dress-which I love) And had I found it before I probably would have tried a knit version, and hey I still might but when i found it i had already finished the first dress. The rest is a basic a line pillowcase style and apron style bodice and ties/straps. So in the idea of naming my style outfits? I’d have to call these “upcakes and ooshes” which holds the 2 word my daughters used to call a couple of their favourite things while they were tiny and learning to talk, Ooshes-shoes and Upcakes -cupcakes and ‘strawberry Upcake (shortcake)’ And just like them learning to talk I am learning (self taught) to sew and as Ellary pronounced shoes, Ooshes which is essentially dyslectic and backward-ish, so is my way of learning at the present, and like Tehy says Upcakes leaving part of the word unspoken I too leave bits behind accidentally here and there but as long as it holds up (and these do, they've been worn and washed a few times) and my darlings like them, that's all that matters as I learn to perfect and challenge myself to put my own style into a real wearable art. because these girls are my favourite girls and they are gorgeous, (and I'm gushing) and they can pull off any style, no matter how crazy this mum makes it! Ha.</div>

It's times like this that make me thankful beyond the normal, thankful we have Facebook to keep in contact phones to send messages even just to the neighbours! Thankful to the emergency services especially! Australia Day was today (yesterday more specifically since its a.m) and Australia doesn't get tornados, this is the one consistent thing I've heard most today. Although 5 have been confirmed and 2 unconfirmed. 17 injured 2 critical and so much damage to property. We are a tough bunch and we always get back up and carry on, we give a hand up over a hand out and aren't afraid to get our hands dirty or to accept help! I pray God has his hand and blessings upon the injured, the emergency service personnel, those evacuated and those bracing for the big stuff. Amen. Night all, I'm off to try to sleep, rain isn't peaceful when it's the sound of possible impending destruction :/Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12840610232281850315noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-917626168008802393.post-55759368658985923512013-01-26T00:02:00.002+10:002013-01-26T00:02:34.405+10:00boys' week @ project run and play casual lunch date<br />

This cutie - Master Juju is 15 months old!!<br />
So, my plan was to photograph the new boys outfit while away on holidays, and it didn't happen, I forgot my camera! when we got home from our weekend away it rained, and hasn't stopped since! Queensland has flooding here and there, nothing major where we are as yet thankfully. This outfit was actually made for a lunch, My bff had her birthday lunch at a restaurant and I thought we had better step it up and add some class, but not over the top uncomfortable, we all know children aren't as well behaved when they are uncomfortable. My theory is, that whilst my boys are only little I can dress them in things they wont love when they are at school, with a reputation of style to uphold haha. I'm sure once they old enough to choose their own clothes they will be in board short and singlets or jeans and tees like their daddy or covered in the latest superhero or cartoon characters. the shorts were made from a self drafted pattern, my first try at flat front pants rather then full elastic waist and I was surprised at how easy that was (why didn't I do this before?). The "suspenders" are actually made as only half suspenders, rather than going over the shoulders and hooking onto both front and back pants, they are stitched at the shoulder seem, under the collar to be hidden. I did this partially because I didn't have enough fabric and partially because its probably not comfortable having suspenders pulling your pants up over a nappy bum. The left over fabric I used to make a bow tie, had just the right amount, but had to use another fabric to thread through the bow, to attach I used Velcro closures, I have made them with elastic before but my boys loved pulling at them so I'd rather make it easy to come off then for them to choke each other with them. The shirt isn't my creation, I just loved it and had to customise it! The outfit went down a treat, comfortable and with lots of compliments!<span style="color: #999999;"> (and dont worry Roo had an awesome ensemble too and hopefully I can link it up in the next section *hint hint*)</span> Sorry for the iphone pictures :/ And the "oops sorry mum I spilled my water on my leg" mark!<br />

(and there is a link to a "how to") When I entered the world of blogging I was searching for this! A pattern or a tutorial to make a cover or seat padding for my highchairs. You know that inevitable and cute moment your baby falls asleep in the highchair and you just absolutely have to take photos before carefully trying to take them out to out them somewhere more comfortable and safe, without waking them? This was it, I ran (tippy toed quietly) to get my camera! Haha, unsure why I tried to be quiet, I had been using the blender to make baby food while he was happily watching... Until he crashed out. So really if he could fall asleep while I used the noisiest machine in the house, then he couldn't possibly wake to anything! <span style="text-align: center;">So anyway after taking a couple of happy snaps....</span><br />

How uncomfortable that chair must be, we got it for function, easily cleaned, grows with them etc, not for looks or really even for comfort, but why not? Especially when the boys seemed to like being in them to watch us on our level, even when not being fed! So with that I finished up preparing food and packing the freezer and got online searching, a couple days on and off searching turned up nothing appropriate to suit our highchair, there was originally a company that did make them to fit but I couldn't find them anywhere anymore so I had to try something myself. That's motivating enough. But what I did find was <a href="http://sewing.about.com/od/babyshowergiftsewing/ss/highchairseat.htm" target="_blank">this</a> with a basic run down about making your own high chair pattern SO I got out a roll of wrapping paper and cut it roughly to size of the chair back and seat, placed it in the seat and marked where the edges were and also where the centre belt was, I folded it in half to make sure it was symetrical and cut it out to fit the marks and tried it again to be sure! Success! I grabbed my wrapping paper pattern and went to work! I used polyester wadding and fabric on either side, I ran a couple of lines diagonally through to quilt the layers together, made my first button holes in each for the seatbelts and then added bias trim, it was my first attempt at using bias and I had no idea what to do with it haha. Wearing my Learners license I just folded it over both edges and ran the sewing machine around it, wow how silly was I! It worked but I felt very silly when I found <a href="http://www.danamadeit.com/2012/08/just-making-40-yards-of-bias-tape-over-here.html" target="_blank">Dana from danamadeit; she shows the RIGHT way to do it</a>! (she is wonderful isn't she, makes everything so easy to understand) I machine sewed (is that right?) lengths of bias to use as ties on both front and back, long enough to tie around seat and around the back. I used just cotton so I could machine wash, I had put laminate aside to make another set with but decided against it, machine washable was better for us as you can probably imagine.<br />

The first one I made was the 2 pieces and the second was one piece, I think the second worked better. If I did it again I would use sew on Velcro for top and bottom and stick on Velcro in the same size for the chair to anchor it better, with the ties it did move a bit when putting them in and out. We stopped using our covers only a couple months ago because we started having to fuss with seatbelt a instead, thanks to Mr Roo becoming a climber!<br />
Now just to update you on my research, I did find that target sells the seat padding (in america) and also a few other companies that have websites in different languages. So if you are in one of places that do have them -good for you! if not, good luck. the above link to the how to is shown on a different highchair but the concept is the same, if you have trouble getting the right pattern pieces to fit let me know and I (may) be able to try scanning mine.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12840610232281850315noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-917626168008802393.post-33652026255183607872013-01-21T20:24:00.001+10:002013-01-22T00:21:46.158+10:00Cake, snake and family<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My princess turned 4 last week, she is SO BIG now, just ask her and she will happily oblige, and chatterbox on about how {big} she is! </div>
<br />

Her party requests- The wildlife park? check! Hootabell cake? Check! Besties? check! glad I could making her requests happen, and make it a wonderful day, even if we were all melting in the horrible hot humidity without any breeze! (can you tell by the rosy red cheeks) oh you want me to stop ranting so you can see the cake? To be honest this is actually my second one, the first (my practise) was a tiny bit smaller and we had that with just immediate family on her actual birthday. This one I made the night before the party and paid attention to detail just a little more. -this one has "stitching, patches and eyelashes whereas the first didn't.<br />
don't judge me too harshly, I'm not a cake maker!<br />

Basically it's/she's a HUGE cake pop, I had to do a practise, BECAUSE I am not a chef and I had no idea if my strangest idea would work, I'm so happy and thankful that it did. If you want to know more (Let me know) I will share it in another post.<br />
<br />
WARNING -NOW IF YOU ARE SCARED OF SNAKES DON'T SCROLL DOWN!-<br />
<br />
The beautiful Cathy paid for snake holds at the wildlife park, most of the kids loved it. A friends cute little toddler spotted the snake, came to an abrupt halt, called out "Not me! I dun-wanna hold a snake" and ran off. And no it wasn't fear, he is just cheeky. My mum on the other hand, doesn't like snakes and chose to stand back.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Can you see the intimidated face here? I felt a little the same even from the other side of the lens this little slithery was into exploring. she slithered down the top of miss' dress (one of her birthday presents that this mummy made) under her straps, then continued up over her shoulder. But Tehy loved it, I promise! She has a great love for creatures great and small, often it makes me sad that I cant give her a pet, especially when I find her crying, covered in ant bites, because her friends didn't like her building them a new home. :'( Oh well a mother guilt doesn't cease I guess and one day we will get Tehy a pet puppy.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Enough with that, back to this.... Tehy still has another year at home before school next year, I'm hoping I can give her some concept of time before then as that is one area we need work, everything and I mean EVERYTHING happened last night or last night at daytime and the future no mater how distant is tomorrow and the next day. Makes it very hard to explain when things did or will happen, so yesterday in the car we had to plan her 16th birthday, HOT AIR BALLOON! I don't doubt she will remember that conversation in 12 years, this kid has a great memory! ( maybe because everything happened only last night)<br />
<br />
I'll leave you with the happier pic with the slithery snake, see, she did in fact love it! Happy birthday princess!<br />

Ok I'll make it quick, seeing as Ive spent the last half hour typing up a big post only for it to have all disappeared, leaving me a nice little pop up with an error code, oh joy!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm sharing my 1st queen size quilt, only my third ever, my first was a simple panel and backing bassinet size, my second was a pieced top and back and still only a small size so this is huge! unsure how my little low range brother machine did it, but i gave it a work out and its survived! this project was a special one, my sisters my daughter and i planned this one together, in secret, we all picked our favourite blue and white fabrics, and split the costs. i spent a couple of nights up later picture messaging my sister (who lives 6 hours away) about piece placement for the top, eventually we settled on the right way and she told me to go to bed ha ha. another few late nights later and another of my younger sisters came to keep me company while i basted the quilt, she spent a lot of time stuck in her phone of course but she was company :) my daughters didn't know what the project actually was, up until they helped me wrap it, and i bargained away any hint giving or telling Mumma about it or they would lose Christmas, it worked, mum was not onto us! my youngest sister didn't even see it until Christmas day when mum unwrapped it! so here it is</span><br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Ok so the quilt is 8" squares, 8 squares across and 10 high, the batting is beautiful bamboo cotton blend more bamboo than cotton. the back not pictured, is a light blue jacquard cotton thick weave, the binding is straight cut pieced single fold, the top is pieced from lincraft fabrics, a few kaufman, and a couple of fillers from my stash, and even a lovely Japanese print we were given by an exchange student a few years ago. the throw cushions are the same, matching fabrics, the pinwheely type, ( you can find the tutorial I adapted from <a href="http://www.modabakeshop.com/2011/07/jelly-roll-floor-pillows.html">Here at moda bake shop</a>) is 16 pieces, a yo yo and a button in the centre, I didn't add piping to mine, simply because it isn't a large cushion and had enough going on already. I love it! the other is a cover, (zippered!) size 16 insert. i love the lace detail.</span></div>

why it was in that place but I just had to pick it up! There are 2 crazy Barbie
doll girls in my house, and with a mummy that sews this was too cute to pass
up, might just be me attempting to push some creativity in sewing and clothes design onto my
children a bit but hey I have to give them the options, and what better way than
this! Especially since the Barbies dolls seem to lose clothes pretty quick
around here. </span></div>

i even went back and stalked a few of my favourite blogs back to their humble beginnings (shh) to help me out.... didn't help, so instead of something cute and or witty I'll just tell you why I have started blogging?!<br />
goes something like this... <a href="http://www.etsy.com/">Etsy</a>, inspired me to start sewing cute things, searching for patterns and tutorials took me to<a href="http://pinterest.com/"> Pinterest</a> and that lead me onto hour long stalks of blogs tutorials and patterns. I clicked link after link and ended up in strange places not knowing exactly how I had found that blog via so many, but that how I found my favourite bloggers which I occasionally still stalk (what) for inspiration. And I wanted in! I wanted sew-alongs and comment and win give-aways and to write tutorials for the things I couldn't find tutorial on when I went searching. I want to use my flashy camera to take photos of my creations, and those smiling faces of my kiddos that make it worth my while. So I opened a blog, and here it sat, neglected, unused, and lonely until NOW! my first post (YAY) hello world of bloggers! I'm late to the party but I got here at last.<br />
